Musicians Artists Producers

MAP Platinum began in Sept 2013 and is a two-year part-time programme for musicians, artists, producers and songwriters who live in the East Kent area and are between the ages of 18 and 25 years old.

Entry is via audition and interview process.

Academy times
The Academy operates weekly on Mondays. This runs for approx: 38 weeks of the year.
The Platinum Academy takes place at Olby’s Soul Cafe in Margate.
On entry, each applicant is given an individualised plan based on their skills and intended pathway into the music industry. The following pathways are available:

Musician / Singer pathway
This pathway involves preparation towards becoming a session player for both recording sessions and live performance. Members on this pathway will be involved in a number of original bands, recording opportunities, worksjops and one to one sessions.

Artist Pathway
Artists on this pathway will work towards creating a set of original material through an ‘A&R’ process and through songwriting sessions. Artists will record and perform their original material, appear in videos and be part of building their own artist brand.

Producer Pathway
As a producer, you will be involved in designing and creating the sound of original MAP artists. You will attend one to one sessions to work on production techniques and skills, run regular recording sessions at a variety of venues and help design your own producer brand. You will be expected to attend rehearsal sessions to understand an artists’ sound. You will produce tracks for MAP artists and be involved in co-writes. This has a one-year pathway option based on experience.

Songwriter pathway
As a songwriter, you will work on the skills needed to write music for a variety of different artists and styles. You will attend one to one sessions to work on lyrics, melody, understanding genres and the building of a portfolio. You will be expected to attend rehearsal sessions to understand an artists’ sound. You will write songs for MAP artists and be involved in co-writes. This is a one-year pathway.

All pathways will involve one to one sessions, practical workshops, individual tuition and some or all of the following:

  • Workshops
  • Photo Shoots
  • Video Shoots

Fees: 2018/19 (Paid over 9 months)
Year 1 / One-year course:
£150 per calendar month / £130 pcm if paid in blocks of 3 months.
Total: £1350 for the year / £1170 if paid in blocks of 3 months.

Year 2:
£130 per calendar month / £110 pcm if paid in blocks of 3 months
Total: £1170 for the year / £990 if paid in blocks of 3 months

Finance options:
MAP is on the Learning Provider List (LP List) whose courses can be funded by a Professional and Career Development Loan (PCDL). The PCDL loan is a low interest government-backed loan to help with career development.
